Savannah Film Festival

Savannah Film Festival

Last year I had the chance to go to a fantastic film festival that SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) Hosted. As a current graduate student there I got to attend the event for free, as long as the tickets were not sold out. The film festival had famous honored guests like Hugh Jackman, Emily Blunt, Maggie Gyllenhaal, John Krasinski, etc.

The film events I attended were The Front Runner and Roma. Each has a Q&A after the movie where I got to see Hugh Jackman and director Jason Reitman for the first film (Shown in the photo below)

The Front Runner

The Front Runner is a movie about the American Senator Gart Hard who was a Democratic presidential candidate in the 1988 elector. His slow demise from candidacy plays into an affair than unravels to the media. I liked the movie, and I usually get bored with political films, but this one kept me engaged.

Next film is a Netflix original that Alfonso Cuaron directed and won a directors guild award for this movie. Roma is about Cuaron’s take on his upbringing and follows the life of a housekeeper of the middle-class family in Mexico. I thought the film was thought-provoking and if you are a fan of semi-autobiographical movies, then this would be great for you. Before the film, we were able to see Emily Blunt and John Krasinski accept an award for SCAD.

I never got to see the Outlander cast in person, but they had their whole costume designs in the SCAD art museum. It was great seeing the costumes in such detail.

End of the Night festivities

At the end of the night, we stepped out of the theatre and witnessed an elaborate performance by some of the scad students. They were singing “Come Alive” in the Greatest Showman, the video link is right below:)

Overall, it was an excellent opportunity to go to, and I will be going to the Savannah Film Festival 2019! So keep on the lookout for my future post.

Any questions about the film festival comment below! Also if there is anything, you guys would like me to write about please comment some suggestions:)
